City Chartered Accountant Academy delivers top CAs

The Chartered Accountant (CA) Academy at the City of Cape Town is developing well-rounded and top-notch accounting professionals for the public sector. Since inception of the CA Academy at the City, 10 candidates have qualified as chartered accountants.
Since 2010, the City has been one of the primary sites within the public sector to enter into a memorandum of understanding with National Treasury for the training of CA candidates. The purpose of the CA programme is to develop well-rounded accounting professionals who would be expected to solve some of the complex problems within the public sector. The City is committed to building capacity within the public sector to promote efficient, effective and transparent financial management.
'The CA academy provides an opportunity for prospective CAs to receive valuable training without going through an auditing firm. This training has been a feature in the private sector for many years and has been adopted in the public sector. Since 2010, the City assisted 10 candidates to become qualified chartered accountants and we are looking forward to helping many more candidates on their journey to becoming CAs. Currently we have three candidates completing their training who are well on their way to being future CAs.
'The CA Academy provides an amazing opportunity for young professionals. Two of our star graduates who qualified through the academy now occupy key positions in the City: Avile Baloyi, the City's Head of Cash Flow and Investment, and the DHL Stadium's Head of Finance, Kim Theron.

It develops talent, and promotes employee satisfaction and a knowledge-driven culture, not only for those in the academy, but also for other employees in the organisation. We congratulate the current candidates for making it this far in their challenging and rewarding CA journey and we wish them the very best for the remainder of their training at the City,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi.
